Hey, I was just wondering: what sort of program do you use to make these maps? Do you just draw them out, or do you use Photoshop or GIMP or something? Is there a specific program to make maps? Thanks. :)

    Hi Olivia,

Most of these maps are made with Campaign Cartographer 3.

I know that you may not use this site anymore, but do you think I could use some of your maps for the book I’m writing? It says non-commercial, but I am only 14, so I highly doubt I will be publishing any time soon. I just need maps.
    Thanks!

Now I was actually thinking. Do you think you could make a map for me? I really don’t know how I will relay unto you my imagination, but maybe somehow I will be able to.
I just don’t know. I’ve been looking for ways to make maps everywhere, but I can’t find a way easy enough.

    Hi Aaron,

Congratulations on deciding to write a book. I’m sure it will be a very rewarding process.

I’m not currently available for custom map projects, but if you get to know the people who hang around the profantasy web site and the cartographer’s guild, you can surely find some skilled mapmakers.

CC3 is a very easy program to learn and it makes great looking maps. It’s also very affordable, even if you have to wait for Christmas or a birthday to get it as a gift.

Honestly, if I were you, worrying about having a polished map would be one of the last things on my list. If you’re writing a book, names, locations, geographic features, etc. may change between now and when you complete it. Just sketch out a map on graph paper for now and don’t worry about everything being perfect - that way you can focus more on writing a great story, which is what your readers really want.

Once your book is finished, you can either hire someone to make a map for you or do it yourself (if you self-publish), or your publisher will hire a professional to make a map anyway (regardless of how good your mapmaking skills are).

    Good luck with your book!
